We took a drive to where the race will start Satur We took a drive to where the race will start Saturday to be sure we knew where we were going.
We decided to explore a bit of the course - my plan was just a couple of km.

As we made our way along, we were lured by the presence of mt St. Helens in the background - and constant promises that with just a few more steps and she would reveal herself.

All of a sudden there she was - and the beginnings of the boulder field.

Dad and I couldn’t help ourselves but continue on - In fact he would have kept going if I hadn’t said we needed to go back.

It made me so excited to get out there and experience more - watching my dad’s awe and wonder made me realize just how lucky I am to get to have this adventure of a lifetime. 

BUT
I also know … 
It will be hard at times.
I will hate it at times.
I will be tired, sore, hungry and uncomfortable.
I will want to quit. 

Last night as I tried to sleep, I struggled to divert my thoughts from these realities - why does the dark of night amplify all of our negative thoughts?

Anxiety and panic took root in my tummy - and I just couldn’t relax. I hate the ‘nerve’ as my friend’s daughter calls it. 
I’m never doing something like this again I decided.
The thing is - of course I am. 

Life is for living, and living means doing and facing new things that scare you, cause you to doubt yourself, and disrupt your normal.

Tomorrow at 9am I will start.
I will do my best to reach the finish line 209 miles away.
I will do my best to feel gratitude even in the dark moments.
Most of all I will do my best to embrace every moment because truthfully 4.5 days will go by fast and before I know it, I’ll be home and sitting at a baseball field again. 😂

So grateful to have Renelle Briggs with me - and @hackputz and @simpy42 joining me soon.

It’s a humbling reminder that we can’t accomplish our biggest goals alone.

So many moments I’ve thought how on earth did I get so lucky to have such amazing people sacrifice time and effort, plus sleep and basic comforts 😂 for me to accomplish my goal. 

I’m so excited to get out there and get started.
This is truly an opportunity and adventure of a lifetime.
